Convoy of Hope

Help to Save Lives in Somalia

Since August 2011, The Global Enrichment Foundation’s Convoy for Hope program has fed close to 170,000 people in Somalia and remains committed to providing emergency food-aid to the most vulnerable. We need your support to get more convoys on the ground, to get more food to those in need… to save more lives.

Famine in Somalia

Last year, Somalia experienced its worst drought in six decades and in August 2011, the United Nations declared the famine in Somalia “the worst humanitarian crisis” on the planet.

Food shortages claimed the lives of tens of thousands of men, women, and children in Somalia and forced hundreds of thousands into already overcrowded internally displaced people’s (IDP) and refugee camps, many walking for up to one month with little food or water.

Convoy for Hope – Food-Aid for Famine Relief

Convoy for Hope is an emergency food-aid program established by The Global Enrichment Foundation to provide famine relief in Somalia. Overcoming immense political and logistical obstacles, GEF was one of the first humanitarian organizations to cross the Kenyan border into Somalia and since August 2011, six GEF convoys have provided emergency food-aid for almost 170,000 people.

On February 3, 2012, the UN announced an end to famine conditions in Somalia. But the country remains in crisis, and without further aid, is at risk of plummeting back into famine.
